Introduction:

Chaga is a fungus that grows on birch trees in temperate climates. Chaga shares many of the birch's medicinal properties, often in a modified form. For example, chaga converts the birch's antiviral betulin into betulinic acid, which is more readily absorbed by the body. Chaga can thus be seen as a kind of "alchemist" of the birch tree. Chaga thus shares the birch's cleansing and regenerative properties.

Like most medicinal mushrooms, chaga contains unique beta-glucans that resemble the structures of various pathogens. When the immune system encounters these, it receives a signal that something is amiss and becomes more alert to foreign or cancerous cells.

Primary indications:

- Immunomodulatory

Stress, diet, lifestyle, and subsequent chronic infections and inflammation can cause the immune system to become "lazy." The constant influx of few warning signals makes the immune system resistant to these signals. Beta-glucans function as a loud and clear signal that something really needs to be done. This allows reishi to "kickstart" the immune system to become active again.

These properties make chaga a very interesting addition to chemotherapy or surgically removed tumors. Chaga can also be used on its own for these cases. If this is the case, it is always advisable to discuss it thoroughly with your oncologist or treating therapist.

Secondary indications:

-Cleansing, deacidifying, regenerating

Chaga shares many properties with the birch tree; it also has cleansing, deacidifying, and powerful antioxidant properties. Furthermore, chaga converts betulin into betulinic acid. Both substances share certain properties, but betulinic acid is much more readily absorbed by humans and therefore much more active. It has antiparasitic, antiviral, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. You could almost consider chaga a kind of birch alchemist, transforming certain healing properties of the tree into something more useful for humans.

- Fibromyalgia

In theory, you might think chaga (and other medicinal mushrooms) shouldn't be used by people with an autoimmune disease. Beta-glucans activate the immune system, which, according to Western wisdom, we don't want to stimulate. However, in practice, many people with fibromyalgia experience a significant improvement in their symptoms when using chaga. Therefore, with caution and proper supervision, chaga could likely be used effectively in this setting as well.

Warnings:

- May irritate the stomach, especially at high and undiluted doses. If you have stomach problems, always take it with caution and monitor your reaction.

Contraindications:

- Do not administer in case of: Autoimmune problems

Interactions:

- May interact with drugs with immunomodulatory properties
