One of the most important indications for passion flower is a deep restlessness that stems from not knowing and following one's life path. The lack of passion, purpose, and a deep reason for living. Even when all comforts are provided, there is still a feeling of emptiness or restlessness. This can be filled by a wide range of activities, possessions, or addictions. If chosen well, passion flower will bring an extra sense of focus and positivity when someone is engaged in something that brings deeper fulfillment. Feelings of anxiety and whether this is the right thing or enough will be much less present.
Secondary indications:
Many physical ailments stem from fear and/or anxiety, such as hiccups, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, palpitations, and headaches.
Menstrual cramps, sleep disturbances, restless legs.
Warnings:
Too high a dose of passion flower can actually have the opposite effect. Therefore, always start with a low dose and gradually increase from there.
Contraindications:
Due to a possible interaction with uterine hormones, it is best not given to pregnant or lactating women, even though it contains only very small amounts of uterine stimulating substances (Harmala alkaloids). In very low doses, some schools of thought do give it for lower abdominal pain during pregnancy.
Interactions:
Passionflower can enhance the effects of other psychotropic drugs. It can also enhance the effects of other plants such as coffee and hops.
