Dosage:
- 5 to 15 drops, under the tongue or dissolved in water, best taken before a meal
Primary indications:
- Stimulates bile production
It is primarily used when the liver doesn't produce enough bile and the body has difficulty digesting fats. If digestive problems such as bloating and fatigue occur after eating a fatty meal, artichoke is the herb of choice.
Secondary indications:
- Liver cleansing
Helps the liver cleanse and strengthen itself in times of reduced liver function, for example, due to an infection, after an intensive course of medication, or excessive alcohol consumption.
- Cholesterol lowering
Helps reduce (LDL) cholesterol levels. This also helps with atherosclerosis.
Warnings:
- Very safe plant, but be careful if you experience digestive sensitivity.
Contraindications:
- Do not administer in case of: Obstructions of the biliary tract, acute hepatitis, lactating mothers
Interactions:
- May enhance the effect of cholesterol-lowering drugs
- May interact with antiarrhythmics, cardiac glycosides and diuretics
