Gastrointestinal complaints with a psychological cause
Lemon balm is the ideal herb for children whose emotions affect their digestion. They often experience stomach and intestinal complaints, usually cramps when there's arguing or stress in the home, or tension at school, for example. It can also be used for adults who experience emotional distress. It's especially useful for people whose gut instincts strongly want to express themselves, but perhaps aren't being acted upon, and whose gut increasingly demands attention.
Comfort for the soul
The effect that Lemon Balm has on the mind can be described primarily as "comfort." A feeling of everything being okay. Stress, nervousness, depression, insomnia, and difficulty concentrating—all of these can arise from someone who simply needs a hug.
